UPMC Jameson, located in New Castle, PA, is seeking a talented Casual Medical Lab Technician or Medical Laboratory Scientist to join our dedicated team. We are looking for individuals passionate about laboratory sciences who are interested in working variable shifts, including rotating weekend and holiday coverage. No travel is required for this position.
Applicants will be placed into the appropriate job title and salary range based on their individual experience and education. The Medical Lab Technician role focuses on interacting professionally with all laboratory customers, responding to inquiries, and performing moderately complex or waived tests. This position requires independent judgment, dependability, and the ability to recognize critical or abnormal test results to ensure patient safety.
The Medical Laboratory Scientist role offers the opportunity to conduct, direct, or assist with test development, methodology evaluation, and equipment selection. Scientists operate and maintain complex equipment, perform high-complexity testing without direct supervision, and may assume temporary first-line supervision of the section. This role builds upon the foundational duties of a technician while requiring in-depth knowledge of techniques, principles, and instruments.
Both roles require adherence to all established laboratory and hospital policies, including quality assurance, proficiency testing, biohazard safety, and confidentiality of patient information. Team members are expected to maintain a safe work environment, monitor supplies cost-effectively, and assist in the training and orientation of new employees, students, and residents.

ASCP certifications (Medical Technologist MT(ASCP), Medical Laboratory Scientist MLS (ASCP), Medical Laboratory Technician MLT(ASCP), Clinical Laboratory Assistant (CLA), or equivalent).
