As a Cashier at Jons, you are the final point of contact for our customers, ensuring their shopping experience ends with accuracy, efficiency, and courtesy. This role goes beyond operating a cash register; you will serve as a knowledgeable guide to our produce department, helping customers differentiate between varieties and ensuring they leave with the freshest items. Your presence sets the tone for the store's commitment to quality and service.
Your day involves a dynamic mix of customer interaction and operational support. You will greet every customer with a warm welcome, assist with bagging, and handle a wide variety of payment methods including cash, checks, EFT, WIC vouchers, and coupons. A key part of your expertise lies in your ability to identify produce types and memorize PLU codes to speed up service. You will also maintain the cleanliness of your checkstand, adhere to strict safety and security protocols, and support the team by performing stocking duties when business volume allows.
This position requires working in a fast-paced retail environment that includes exposure to refrigerated and frozen storage areas with temperatures as low as 20 degrees Fahrenheit. The role involves standing for extended periods, lifting items up to 30 lbs, and navigating areas that may require climbing stairs. You will work in a moderate noise environment and may be exposed to dust and cleaning agents during routine housekeeping duties.
