Cornell University was founded on the principle that "...any person can find instruction in any study." Inclusion and belonging are at the core of our values and mission. We strive to be a welcoming, caring, healthy, and equitable community where students, faculty, and staff with different backgrounds, perspectives, abilities, and experiences can learn, innovate, and work in an environment of respect. As a member of the Cornell community, every individual shares the responsibility to cultivate a culture of inclusion for all.
The College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) is a pioneer of purpose-driven science and Cornell University's second-largest college. We work across disciplines to tackle the challenges of our time through world-renowned research, education, and outreach. Our work focuses on understanding the world's complex, interlocking systems, ensuring access to nutritious food and a healthy environment as a fundamental human right, and supporting local people and communities everywhere.
The Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics is a world-class department conducting research and teaching in general molecular biology and genetics. The Feschotte Lab specifically studies mobile genetic elements, such as transposons and endogenous viruses, using diverse animal models including mice, zebrafish, flies, and termites.
We are searching for a Lab Technician I to join the laboratory of Professor Cedric Feschotte in the summer of 2026. This is a full-time, one-year term appointment (100% FTE) contingent upon available work, funding, and performance.
In this role, you will serve as an individual contributor, modeling and supporting a culture of inclusion, belonging, and wellbeing. You will assist a postdoctoral fellow who is co-advised by Professor Feschotte and Andrew Clark, collaborating with Corrie Moreau from the Department of Entomology and the Department of Ecology and Evolutionary Biology. Your day-to-day work will involve maintaining termite colonies and fly stocks, as well as conducting molecular and cellular experiments such as confocal imaging, molecular cloning, NGS library prep, RT-qPCR, Western blot, and immunoprecipitation to study transposons and other selfish genetic elements.
Every member of our community is expected to foster a culture of belonging by communicating across differences, being cooperative and collaborative, showing respect and empathy, and supporting work/life integration. You will be expected to work independently after sufficient training, under general supervision, and collaboratively within a team environment.
