About the Role
The Building Engineer serves as the hands-on leader responsible for the daily maintenance, safety, and operational readiness of the school facility. This role ensures the building and grounds remain safe, clean, and fully functional to support students, faculty, and staff. You will oversee preventative maintenance, emergency repairs, vendor coordination, and compliance with all local and state regulations related to school facilities.
This position requires a visible presence within the school community, balancing technical expertise with a commitment to the educational environment. You will conduct daily walkthroughs, troubleshoot issues ranging from HVAC failures to minor electrical problems, and coordinate with contractors to ensure all work adheres to school policies and child safety requirements.
Location & Schedule
This role is based at 568 River Ave, Bronx, NY. The position operates on a Monday through Friday schedule from 6:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

Key Responsibilities
- check_circleConduct daily walkthroughs of the school building and grounds
- check_circlePerform preventative maintenance on HVAC, boilers, plumbing, and electrical systems
- check_circleTroubleshoot and repair leaks, lighting outages, and minor electrical issues
- check_circleMaintain roofing, windows, doors, flooring, and structural components
- check_circleMonitor and maintain gymnasium, cafeteria, and auditorium facilities
- check_circleOversee fire alarm systems, sprinklers, emergency lighting, and security systems
- check_circleAssist administration with emergency preparedness and drill execution
- check_circleCoordinate and supervise contractors performing work on campus
- check_circleMaintain work order system and track preventative maintenance schedules
- check_circleAssist with annual facilities budget planning
- check_circleProvide regular updates to the Head of School or Facilities Director
- check_circleCoordinate required inspections for fire, boiler, elevator, and health departments
Requirements
