You will work alongside a dedicated team to detect and question individuals suspected of violating immigration and customs laws, prevent and apprehend undocumented noncitizens and smugglers, and patrol international boundaries and coastal waterways. The role involves maintaining surveillance, interpreting physical evidence, and utilizing a variety of government assets including vehicles, horses, vessels, and off-road equipment.
After selection, you will undergo approximately six months of intensive instruction at the U.S. Border Patrol Academy in Artesia, New Mexico. Training covers immigration and nationality laws, law enforcement operations, driver training, physical techniques, and firearms proficiency. While proficiency in Spanish is required for the role, agents are provided training at the Academy to become proficient in the language.
