The Board regulates the practices of veterinarians, veterinary technicians, and veterinary euthanasia technicians in the District of Columbia. Additionally, it advises the Mayor regarding the regulation of veterinary facilities within the District.
This is a voluntary, unpaid board position with a three-year term. The Board consists of five voting members: three licensed veterinarians, one veterinary technician, and one consumer member. Members are appointed by the Mayor with the advice and consent of the Council.
The role requires a monthly time commitment for Board meetings, with subcommittees meeting as needed to complete specific tasks. The Board seeks to prioritize District of Columbia residents for screening and interviews.
