The Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at Tufts Medical Center is an internationally respected, 400-bed, tertiary care academic medical center located in vibrant downtown Boston. As a proud member of Tufts Medicine, we bring together the strength of academic medicine and community care to deliver high-quality services. Our Clinical Laboratories perform approximately two million tests annually, including a Blood Bank that supports nearly 15,000 transfusions. We are accredited by the College of American Pathologists (CAP), the Association for the Advancement of Blood and Biotherapies (AABB), and the American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI).
Our mission of advancing knowledge and training students to become future investigators drives us to quickly turn innovative research into pioneering care. The Medical Center is known for its basic, translational, and clinical science research, ranking in the top 10 percent of independent institutions receiving federal research funding. The Transfusion Medicine service provides critical clinical support to robust organ transplant programs (cardiac, kidney, and liver), hematopoietic progenitor cell transplants, a Level 1 trauma center, and a wide range of surgical, oncologic, and high-risk obstetrical patients.
