The Behavioral Health Specialist I is an integral member of the Behavioral Health Collaborative Care (BHCC) team. This role operates at the intersection of primary care and mental health, working closely with the patient's primary care provider, a psychiatric consultant, and other mental health providers to deliver integrated care.
This position focuses on delivering evidence-based behavioral interventions within the primary care setting. The Behavioral Health Specialist provides diagnostic assessments, symptom monitoring, and brief interventions, including psychoeducation and tele-health support. A key aspect of the role is facilitating collaboration between the patient, the primary care provider, and psychiatric consultants to ensure appropriate management of mental health symptoms.
The role is distinct from long-term therapy; instead, it emphasizes screening, assessment, and short-term, structured interventions such as Behavioral Activation. Specialists will coordinate referrals to clinically indicated services outside the office, such as housing assistance or specialty mental health care, and participate in weekly caseload consultations to discuss treatment plans for patients who are new to treatment or not improving as expected.
We strive to create a positive, professional, and service-oriented work environment that supports the mission and values of both IHA and Trinity Health. Team members are expected to embrace new ideas, respect cultural differences, and serve as role models for exceptional ability. We prioritize high-level service and respect for all internal and external customers, adhering strictly to patient confidentiality and HIPAA guidelines.
Candidates must possess a valid Master's-level license to practice clinical social work in the State of Michigan or similar relevant licensure. Successful candidates will be expected to complete IHA's "The Customer" training and a competency-based program within the introductory and training period. All applicants are encouraged to seek clarification from their supervisor or Human Resources regarding any position requirements they do not fully understand.
