A Behavioral Specialist in a crisis home provides immediate stabilization and therapeutic support to individuals experiencing acute psychiatric or emotional crises. This role is designed to ensure the safety of both residents and staff while guiding individuals toward a successful transition to residential care.
The position operates within a "living room" model, featuring comfortable seating, private bedrooms, and laundry facilities to create a supportive environment. The home operates around the clock, necessitating shift work that includes nights, weekends, and holidays. Specialists are often on call for crisis intervention via phone consultation or on-site visits after hours.
You will implement individualized behavior intervention plans and utilize evidence-based de-escalation techniques to manage behavioral emergencies. Your day involves conducting thorough intake evaluations and functional behavior assessments to identify root causes of challenging behaviors. You will teach and model essential life skills, such as self-regulation and healthy communication, while maintaining detailed records of behavioral data and progress reports.
Collaboration is central to this role. You will work closely with a multidisciplinary team of nurses, social workers, and clinicians to coordinate care. Additionally, you will provide psychoeducation and training to family members and other staff on effective behavior management strategies.
This position requires the ability to perform physical de-escalation and safety holds as part of crisis intervention training (such as MANDT or CPI). This often involves quickly moving from a sitting or kneeling position to standing without using hands. You must be capable of standing, walking, and sitting for extended periods, including climbing stairs, and regularly lifting or moving objects weighing between 15 and 50 pounds.
This role requires travel within the Metro Atlanta Area. A current driver's license and personal car insurance with liability are required.
This position is designated as sensitive and requires a criminal background check. Employment is contingent upon the successful completion of this check and an E-Verify process.
