About the Role
Help clients feel seen and supported by providing thoughtful legal assessments that pave the way for stability and justice. The Housing Intake and Assessment Attorney will work within the Intake and Assessment Unit (IAU) to triage emergency housing issues, preparing critical documents such as stays of execution, motions to set aside, and answers. This role focuses on conducting intake and assessment for new clients, with a specific emphasis on Orange County residents, through the CLA SoCal Hotline and various outreach events.
As a full-time, hybrid, exempt position reporting to the IAU Supervising Attorney, you will serve as a vital link between vulnerable community members and the legal system. You will engage in case investigation, witness interviews, and factual research to identify wrap-around legal services, collaborating closely with CLA SoCal's various legal units to ensure comprehensive support.

Key Responsibilities

- check_circleMaintain detailed case notes and timekeeping in the LegalServer case management system
- check_circleCollect client data for grant reporting purposes and ensure timely responses to legal requests
- check_circleConduct outreach and provide community education presentations to improve systemic housing issues
- check_circleConduct client interviews and perform case investigations with witness interviews
- check_circleResearch and write pleadings, memoranda, correspondence, and other legal documents
- check_circleDirect and supervise the legal work of paralegals, law students, interns, and volunteers

Requirements
- verifiedJuris Doctor degree
- verifiedActive member in good-standing of the California Bar or ability to register as a legal services provider
