As an Assistant Paraeducator for High Incidence students, you will serve as a vital support partner to certified classroom teachers within the Wichita Public Schools (USD 259). This role is designed to complement the structured curriculum and ensure that every student receives the individualized attention necessary to succeed academically and socially.
Working under the direct supervision of a certified teacher, you will help facilitate a safe, healthful, and inclusive learning environment. Your presence allows teachers to focus on instruction while you reinforce learning concepts through one-on-one or small group interactions. The role is particularly focused on supporting students with high-incidence disabilities, requiring a blend of academic assistance and personal care.
Your day will be dynamic and student-centered. You will assist students with lesson assignments, manage classroom routines, and help integrate technology like SMART boards and iPads into daily learning. A significant portion of your time will be dedicated to supporting students with basic needs, including hygiene, feeding (which may include tube feeding), toileting, and physical transfers, always under the supervision of the school nurse or appropriate professionals.
You will also play a key role in data collection, helping teachers track student performance and modify activities to meet individual needs. Whether you are modeling appropriate behavior, managing learning centers, or responding to emergency situations, your goal is to foster a positive, professional atmosphere that reflects the district's mission.
Candidates interested in joining the Wichita Public Schools team should review the specific qualification profile, which includes a High School Diploma or GED, and additional requirements for those working in Title schools (48 college credits or a state-approved assessment).
