About the Department

The School of Social Work at the University of Texas at Arlington promotes the highest standards of integrity and excellence in research, teaching, and service. As one of the largest programs in the country, the School serves more than 2,200 students across BSW, MSW, and Ph.D. programs. It houses two Minors (Diversity Studies and Social Welfare), five graduate certificates, and two professional journals: The Journal of Policy Practice and Research and Adoption Quarterly. The School creates collaborative scholarly and educational opportunities for students and the community, with the ultimate goal of achieving a just society.

About the University

The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) is located in the heart of the Dallas-Fort Worth-Arlington metroplex, a vibrant and diverse area home to over 7 million people. About the Role

The School of Social Work invites applications for an Associate Dean for Student and Academic Affairs, a position expected to start September 1, 2026. This pivotal role requires a dynamic and visionary leader committed to academic excellence and student success. As a member of the Dean's Senior Leadership Team, the Associate Dean will provide strategic vision to advance the School's mission, manage significant budgets, and oversee daily operations for undergraduate and graduate programs. The role involves supervising leaders in Practicum Education, Academic Advising, and Student Affairs, while ensuring compliance with accreditation standards from the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) and SACSCOC. The successful candidate will champion a culture of student engagement, foster belonging, and collaborate with faculty to enhance the overall student experience.

Hiring Process and Application Instructions

Applicants must be legally able to accept work in the United States in accordance with USCIS regulations; the university is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time. The position is open to candidates for appointment as an Associate or Full Professor, either tenured or on the Academic Professional Track.

Both in-state and out-of-state residents have the flexibility to complete the program online with start dates in the summer, fall, or spring. The school also provides two doctoral pathways. The PhD in Social Work program initiates a new cohort every Fall semester. Additionally, the Doctor of Social Work program, pending final state approval, is scheduled to launch in summer 2026 as a 100% online option designed for working professionals. This DSW program will allow new cohorts to begin in January and June, preparing students to become leaders and educators in the field.
