About the Role

The Assistant Yard Manager serves as a vital partner to the Yard Manager, ensuring the smooth and efficient operation of the feedyard. This role is designed to bridge daily operational needs with strategic maintenance goals, acting as a key communicator between management and the yard crew. You will be responsible for troubleshooting daily requirements and overseeing the general functionalities of the facility, ensuring that all activities align with company standards for safety and productivity.

Day in the Life

Your day will be a mix of hands-on leadership and technical oversight. You will coordinate task allocation for the yard crew, ensuring that maintenance and repair priorities are met efficiently. A significant portion of your time will be spent operating and supervising heavy machinery, managing pen maintenance, and overseeing the shop's maintenance activities. You will also be responsible for maintaining critical infrastructure, including roadways, alleys, and watering systems, while keeping detailed records of expenses and environmental compliance.

Working Conditions

This position requires considerable physical activity and travel throughout the feedyard. You will be on your feet for extended periods, engaging in tasks such as lifting, bending, shoveling, and climbing. The role involves exposure to various weather conditions, including rain, snow, heat, and dust, as well as potential hazards associated with heavy equipment, welding, cutting, and exposure to chemicals or petroleum products. A valid driver's license and comfort with vehicular travel around the facility are essential.
