The Department of Biology at Loyola University Maryland offers B.S. degrees in Biology and Biohealth, alongside several interdisciplinary programs and minors. As a vibrant and growing unit within a prestigious, selective university, the department is dedicated to the care and education of the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. Loyola, founded in 1852, is a Catholic University and the first to bear the name of Saint Ignatius Loyola. Deeply committed to Ignatian principles, the university focuses on preparing students to learn, lead, and serve in a diverse and changing world.
We invite applications for an instructor committed to excellence in undergraduate teaching to join the Department of Biology as an Assistant Teaching Professor. This role is designed for a scholar who will teach introductory and upper-level courses in Ecology and Evolution for Biology majors, as well as introductory courses in Cell and Molecular Biology or Organismal Biology. The successful candidate will also have the opportunity to develop an upper-level course in their area of specialty within ecology or evolutionary biology.
Beyond the classroom, the position involves assisting the department in curricular development, assessment, and advising. The role is integral to contributing to the educational mission of Loyola University Maryland, with a specific emphasis on high-impact practices aligned with the Jesuit tradition. The teaching load consists of four lectures or labs in the fall and the equivalent in the spring, with no required summer teaching.
Loyola University Maryland strongly values the benefits that diversity brings to the workplace. In accord with our Ignatian values, the University is committed to creating a community that recognizes the inherent value and dignity of each person. We are especially interested in candidates who will contribute to our stated goal of equity and inclusion within the academic community.
With a newly established Office of Equity and Inclusion, we are dedicated to providing an environment where everyone can learn, grow, and thrive. Key efforts include faculty development programming, diversity reading groups, investment in pedagogical resources for differential instruction, and affinity faculty and staff groups. We seek a broad spectrum of candidates, including women, people of color, persons with disabilities, sexual minorities, first-generation college students, and those with non-traditional career paths.
