About the Department
The Department of Biological Sciences at Sacramento State is one of the largest programs on campus, serving approximately 1,500 undergraduate and 60 Master's students. Located primarily in the Tschannen Science Complex, the department covers a broad spectrum of biological disciplines, including entomology, evolution, microbiology, molecular biology, genetics, and conservation biology. The team consists of 30 permanent faculty, approximately 40 temporary faculty, and a dedicated support staff committed to advancing education and research in the natural sciences.

Key Responsibilities
- check_circleManage department course accounts, equipment maintenance accounts, and support service accounts
- check_circleAct as the primary purchasing agent for the department to procure supplies and equipment
- check_circleCoordinate between stockroom staff and faculty to manage physical and online chemical inventories
- check_circleProvide lead work direction and training to Graduate Students and Student Assistants
- check_circleServe as the Department Hazardous Waste Materials Coordinator and liaison with EH&S
- check_circlePerform technical support, troubleshooting, and diagnosis of scientific equipment and software
- check_circleEnsure safety protocols are developed, current, and maintained through monthly inspections
Requirements
- verified3 years instructional support experience OR 2 years college with 16 units OR 4 years college with 16 units
- verifiedExperience managing department service centers
- verifiedExperience managing inventory and supply records
- verifiedKnowledge of biological and chemical options for equipment and supplies
- verifiedAbility to coordinate stockroom staff and faculty
- verifiedAbility to troubleshoot equipment and laptop software
- verifiedExperience handling, storing, and disposing of chemicals and biohazardous waste

- verifiedBasic computing skills with Microsoft Office 365

Nice to Have
B.S. or B.A. degree in Biology or a related discipline. Experience working with a diverse population of students and faculty. Ability to problem solve and think critically, often under time constraints and budgetary constrictions. Strong communication and interpersonal skills, comfortable working closely with others, and the ability to schedule and supervise student assistants.
