HCC is a construction company headquartered in Mumbai, Maharashtra, with a global operational scale dedicated to developing responsible infrastructure. Founded in 1926 by Seth Walchand Hirachand, the firm traces its origins to the 1920s construction of the Borghat Railway Tunnel, which remains in service today. Over nearly a century, the organization has delivered some of modern India's most complex engineering feats, including the Bandra Worli Sea Link, the Lavasa hill city, the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, the Kudankulam nuclear power plant, and high-altitude hydropower projects in the Himalayas.
The company maintains a substantial workforce comprising over 3,000 officers, including approximately 1,600 engineers, alongside roughly 25,000 workers deployed at project sites throughout India. The HCC Group structure includes HCC Ltd., HCC Real Estate Ltd., Lavasa Corporation Ltd., HCC Infrastructure Co. Ltd., and Steiner AG.
Beyond its core construction activities, the group prioritizes social responsibility through initiatives in water sustainability, disaster relief, HIV/AIDS awareness, community development, and education. These efforts were recognized with the Best Social Investment Strategy award by the World CSR Congress in February 2013 and the Civic Award for Social Development by the Bombay Chamber of Commerce and Industry in June 2013.
