The Administrative Assistant serves as a vital support pillar for the Administration Services Director at the Gerald R. Ford Job Corps Center in Grand Rapids, MI. This position is integral to the operations of a U.S. Department of Labor Job Corps contractor, a federally-funded residential training program dedicated to providing career-ready technical and basic skills training to eligible youth ages 16-24.
In this role, you will manage a high volume of administrative and clerical tasks while projecting a professional image that inspires confidence and trust. You will act as the primary liaison between the manager and center staff, coordinating schedules, handling correspondence, and maintaining critical student records. Beyond standard administrative duties, you will play a key part in the center's mission by supporting the Career Management Team (CMT) process, which guides students from their initial enrollment through to successful post-center placement.
The Job Corps environment is built on a foundation of safety, accountability, and student development. As an Administrative Assistant, you will help maintain a safe and clean work area that models high standards for the entire center. You will be expected to support and promote the center's zero-tolerance policies while fostering a positive, quality customer service experience for students, staff, and visitors.
The role requires a deep commitment to the center's mission of preparing young people for the workforce. You will contribute to this mission by adhering to the eight Career Success Standards, which include workplace ethics, communications, multicultural awareness, and personal growth. By participating in center committees and collaborating with the CMT, you help ensure that graduates receive the necessary academic, employability, and social skills to attain viable employment within nine months of separating from the program.
Candidates must possess a High School Diploma or equivalency (an Associate's Degree is preferred) and demonstrate proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and internet tools. A valid state driver's license and CPR/First Aid certifications are required. Please submit your application including proof of these credentials and relevant experience to the Administration Services Director.
