The Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PM&R) at the University of Utah School of Medicine and the Craig H. Neilsen Rehabilitation Hospital (NRH) is a leader in the Intermountain West. As the largest tertiary and quaternary academic medical center in the region, U of U Health has ranked in the Top 10 Academic Medical Centers for Quality of Care for 14 consecutive years. The department's Section of PM&R Psychology comprises nine faculty clinical psychologists across Rehabilitation, Health, and Neuropsychology subspecialties. Our providers work collaboratively with physiatrists, PT/OT, SLP, and other specialists to serve patients with a broad spectrum of conditions, including spinal cord injury (SCI), traumatic brain injury (TBI), stroke, amputation, complex medical issues, obesity, and pain concerns.
The 75-bed Craig H. Neilsen Rehabilitation Hospital, opened in Spring 2020, is one of the most advanced rehabilitation facilities in the nation. It serves as a catalyst for the further development of the University's rehabilitation programs, offering dedicated inpatient teams and a comprehensive outpatient clinic for individual and group psychotherapy and assessments.
We are seeking an energetic, academically-oriented rehabilitation or health psychologist for a full-time faculty position. This role is designed to maintain a strong clinical practice while supporting the research, educational, service, and leadership goals of the University of Utah's School of Medicine. The position is ideal for a candidate with a specialty interest in spinal cord injury and/or stroke, though opportunities exist to work with a wide variety of rehabilitation and chronic health conditions.
The day-to-day responsibilities involve a mix of inpatient and outpatient care. We anticipate that at least half of the clinical time will be dedicated to inpatient services at NRH, with the remainder in outpatient settings. In the outpatient clinic, you will provide comprehensive psychological and neuropsychological assessments for procedures such as spinal cord stimulator trials, baclofen pump trials, bariatric surgery, and post-concussion evaluations. As a faculty member, you will also play a vital role in our clinical training program by offering training in your clinical specialties and participating in PM&R psychology training committees for practicum students, APA-accredited interns, and postdoctoral fellows.
