The Mission Trails Regional Park Foundation operates as a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in San Diego, California, dedicated to the preservation and protection of the Mission Trails Regional Park. Established in 1988, the entity partners with the City of San Diego to maintain the natural environment while promoting educational and recreational activities for the public. The organization is managed by a Board of Directors and an Executive Director, with operational offices located within the park's Visitor and Interpretive Center, a facility opened in 1995 as a joint initiative.
Funding for the foundation comes from private donations and grants, supporting critical initiatives such as habitat restoration, trail maintenance, facility construction, and the development of interpretive exhibits and films. The foundation plays a significant role in the local community by underwriting field trips for over 10,000 San Diego County students annually, making these visits an essential part of the educational experience for many elementary schools. With the park welcoming more than 2.2 million visitors each year, the foundation ensures that these resources remain accessible and well-maintained for the general public and educational groups alike.
