Emory University is a leading research university dedicated to fostering excellence and attracting world-class talent to innovate for the future. Within the School of Medicine, the Santangelo laboratory in the Wallace H. Coulter Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Emory Vaccine Center is expanding its capabilities to drive advanced therapeutic research.
The lab utilizes state-of-the-art equipment to encapsulate high-quality synthetic mRNA into lipid nanoparticles (LNPs), enabling impactful therapeutic experiments. As the team scales its ability to formulate multiple constructs simultaneously, it seeks a highly motivated scientist to lead the design, optimization, and characterization of these mRNA-LNP therapeutics. The environment is highly collaborative, offering strong research and career development opportunities under minimal supervision.
This position serves as a critical driver for the laboratory's expansion into higher-scale formulation. The successful candidate will independently lead the development of mRNA-LNP therapeutics using industry-standard techniques, including microfluidic mixing platforms. You will be responsible for designing, formulating, and optimizing LNPs, as well as analyzing their physicochemical properties such as size, zeta potential, and encapsulation efficiency.
Beyond technical execution, you will refine formulation protocols, troubleshoot complex challenges, and contribute to the scientific direction of multiple federally funded programs. The role involves preparing detailed quality and characterization summaries, documenting production details, and presenting results at lab meetings. You will also contribute to manuscripts, grant reports, and regulatory documentation, and manage the shipment of reagents to domestic and international partners.
Candidates are encouraged to connect with the team for general consideration. Please note that this position requires in-person work at the Emory University campus in Atlanta, GA; remote work is not an option.
