The Applications Engineer serves as a critical bridge between sales, engineering, and end-users, providing deep technical expertise in abrasive air blast processes, equipment selection, and surface preparation. This role exists to evaluate complex customer applications, recommend appropriate blasting media and process parameters, and ensure proposed solutions meet rigorous surface requirements, production targets, and the customer's specific "Job to Be Done" (JTBD).
As a subject-matter expert for both manual and automated blasting systems, you will guide projects from initial concept through final commissioning. Your work involves crafting clear recommendations through detailed proposals and General Arrangement (GA) drawings, often requiring presentations to articulate the value proposition. You will act as a proactive problem solver, identifying customer pain points to craft high-value solutions that improve processes and meet commitment dates.
You will be an integral part of the Project Management team, partnering closely with field sales to prioritize opportunities and deliver on value propositions. Collaboration extends to engineering and manufacturing to align offerings with design-build standards and strategic goals. This role requires a growth mindset, acting as a change agent with a process-first approach to encourage analytical thinking and continuous improvement.
We uphold the Clemco values, prioritizing customer experience and safety while reinforcing our PQDCG (People, Quality, Delivery, Cost, and Growth) priorities. The culture fosters pride in quality, protects people from hazards, and promotes transparency, open dialogue, and respect. You will participate in LEAN initiatives within project management and cross-functional events, leading teams to positively influence outcomes.
This position is primarily based in an office environment but includes exposure to manufacturing plant and field settings. The role requires occasional travel (up to 25%) to customer locations, distributors, and trade shows to engage in face-to-face meetings, define JTBD, and gather technical information. Success in this role involves effective communication with distributors and customers, utilizing technology to connect, and engaging in constructive conflict to arrive at win-win solutions.
