Join our incredible mission to pave the way for a world free from the fear of infectious disease! Texas Biomedical Research Institute is pioneering and sharing scientific research to protect you, your families, and our global community from the threat of infectious diseases. Our scientific discoveries create breakthroughs in medical research to provide better overall global health.
Texas Biomed is the only independent, nonprofit infectious disease research institute in the U.S. to combine the highest-level biocontainment labs for infectious disease and biodefense research, a federally-designated National Primate Research Center, more than 80 years of discoveries advancing diagnostics, vaccines and therapies, and an entrepreneurial culture with specialized expertise in regulated science required for FDA approval.
As an Animal Caretaker in the Baboon Group, you will be the frontline guardian of our primate colony. Your day-to-day life involves providing comprehensive care for baboons, including watering, feeding, and the rigorous cleaning of their habitats. You will perform daily health checks, record critical data, and assist Veterinarians and Veterinary Technicians in delivering high-quality healthcare. Additionally, you will play a key role in our environmental enrichment programs to ensure the well-being of our animals.
This role requires a unique blend of teamwork and independence. You will work closely with a dedicated team to maintain the highest standards of animal husbandry while also managing your responsibilities autonomously. The position involves strenuous physical activities, including washing down and moving cages and sanitizing environments using various detergents and portable power washers. While the laboratory environment is managed by stringent safety and health standards that keep risks low, the work includes routine exposure to animals, hazardous substances, and potentially challenging conditions such as unpleasant odors or adverse weather.
We take pride in fostering a culture of respect, opportunity, and unity!
