The Afterschool Program Staff serves as a vital link in our before, after, and summer child care programs, creating a safe, caring, and engaging environment for children from kindergarten through sixth grade. This role goes beyond supervision; it is about fostering healthy relationships among children and providing positive role modeling experiences. Staff members are responsible for guiding students through various recreational activities while ensuring their physical and emotional well-being.
In this position, you will manage the daily rhythm of the classroom, from greeting families and children to supporting instructional needs and coordinating club activities. A key component of the role involves leading and supervising Afterschool Aides and Volunteers, ensuring a cohesive team effort in delivering high-quality care. You will also play an active part in field trips, requiring the stamina to walk up to two miles daily alongside students.
We believe in maintaining the highest standards of safety and confidentiality. Staff are expected to remain in close proximity to students at all times, adhere strictly to local policies, and protect student information on a "need-to-know" basis. The environment is often highly active and very engaged, reflecting the energy of youth participating in daily activities. We require a moderate degree of physical and emotional stamina to navigate this dynamic atmosphere, which includes climbing stairs, active play in the gym, and handling equipment up to 50 pounds.
Candidates must be at least 18 years old with a high school diploma or equivalent. While enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are essential, specific professional credentials (such as the Vermont Afterschool Foundations Certificate or a relevant degree) are required after one program year. CPR-First Aid certification is also required or must be completed within three months of hiring.
Interested applicants should demonstrate strong customer service skills, the ability to manage multiple priorities with frequent interruptions, and a commitment to working effectively with diverse backgrounds. Please note that this position requires the ability to make independent judgments and follow safety rules rigorously.
We are an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse and inclusive community. We welcome applicants from all backgrounds and are dedicated to providing a supportive workplace where every team member can thrive.
