As an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner, you will provide advanced nursing services and patient care under the supervision of the facility physician. This role is critical to the facility's medical program, requiring you to exercise sound independent judgment while adhering to established corporate, facility, and correctional policies.
Your day-to-day involves performing comprehensive nursing care, from executing physician orders and administering medications to conducting examinations and treatments. You will order and interpret diagnostic tests, formulate prognoses, and collaborate with physicians and other health professionals to develop comprehensive care plans. The role also demands vigilance in monitoring inpatient hospitalizations, auditing pharmacy use, and closely tracking potential catastrophic illnesses.
Beyond clinical duties, you will serve as a key communicator, interacting effectively with administration, staff, inmates, visitors, and the general public with tact and diplomacy. You will participate in multi-disciplinary committee meetings to monitor healthcare quality and assist in facilitating accreditation efforts (NCCHC/ACA/JCAHO). The environment can be challenging; you must be prepared to handle difficult interpersonal contacts, verbal abuse, and hostile views while maintaining absolute security and confidentiality of all medical records.
Candidates selected for this position will be expected to accept on-call status and work rotating shifts. The role requires the ability to engage in functions within confined areas and react quickly and calmly in emergency or high-stress situations, including performing rescue functions during accidents or disasters.
