About the Mission
The Fred G. Acosta Job Corps Center is a federally-funded residential training program operated by Human Learning Systems under contract with the U.S. Department of Labor. Our mission is to provide career-ready technical and basic academic skills training, along with job placement assistance, to eligible youth ages 16-24. We are dedicated to transforming lives by fostering strong community partnerships and ensuring every student has the tools to succeed in the workforce.
About the Role
As an Outreach and Admissions Counselor, you will serve as the vital bridge between our center and the communities we serve. This role is designed to educate, engage, and recruit eligible youth while building lasting relationships with schools, social service agencies, military services, and community organizations. You will be the face of Job Corps at public events, high schools, and community meetings, representing the center's commitment to excellence and integrity.
Your day will involve a dynamic mix of fieldwork and strategic planning. You will travel to conduct home visits, retrieve unauthorized absences, and promote the program to potential applicants. Beyond recruitment, you will guide applicants through the eligibility process, help them develop personalized career plans, and ensure they are fully prepared for enrollment. From conducting campus tours to coaching graduates on resume preparation and interview skills, you will play a hands-on role in the entire lifecycle of a student's journey—from initial contact to successful career transition.
Hiring Process
Candidates selected for this role will be expected to participate in mandatory staff training as required by the Policy and Requirements Handbook (PRH). The position requires a valid state driver's license and CPR/First Aid certification to effectively perform outreach and travel duties within the assigned geographical area.
