About the Role
As a Transportation Technician, you will serve as the operational backbone of the District's transportation network. Your primary mission is to ensure the safe, efficient, and cost-effective movement of students by organizing logistical needs, establishing routes, and managing complex scheduling requirements. This role exists to bridge the gap between administrative planning and field execution, ensuring that every student reaches their destination safely while maximizing district resources.
In this position, you will act as a central point of contact for staff, administrators, students, parents, and the community. Your day involves coordinating with nursing and special services personnel to address student health needs, securing substitute drivers, and managing emergency responses to bus trouble calls. You will utilize computerized routing programs to design and maintain routes, ensuring loads are equalized and safety standards are met. Additionally, you will prepare critical documentation, maintain confidential student files, and provide backup support for other areas as needed.
The role requires a high degree of adaptability, as you will work flexible hours including weekends and holidays to meet departmental demands. You will also serve as a resource for the community, answering inquiries regarding routes, schedules, and regulations while resolving conflicts and disseminating information with professionalism and care.

Key Responsibilities
- check_circleDesign and maintain student bus routes and shuttles using computerized routing programs
- check_circleCoordinate and assign field trips to drivers and paraeducators to maximize district resources
- check_circleRespond to inquiries regarding routes, stops, schedules, and transportation regulations
- check_circleMaintain student health care folders, bus route books, and confidential files
- check_circleMonitor compliance with state pupil transportation guidelines and applicable regulations
- check_circleProvide emergency relief school bus driving as directed by management
- check_circlePrepare routes for early dismissal and late arrival days and assign drivers accordingly
- check_circleSecure qualified substitute drivers and instruct them on routing and schedules
- check_circleAssist management in maintaining transportation software including trip requesting and GPS systems
- check_circleCoordinate with mechanics and vendors to resolve bus trouble calls and arrange replacement vehicles
Requirements
- verifiedHigh school diploma or equivalent
- verifiedMinimum of three (3) years dispatch/routing experience preferred
- verifiedValid state driver's license with Class B CDL (or willingness to obtain within 6 months)
- verifiedState of Washington School Bus Driver's Authorization
- verifiedValid Medical Examiners Certificate
- verifiedFirst Aid/CPR card
- verifiedWSP Fingerprint clearance
- verifiedAbility to pass random drug test
- verifiedSkilled in Microsoft Office/XP suite and Google suite
- verifiedExperience with transportation mapping and routing procedures preferred
- verifiedSufficient command of English language
Nice to Have
Minimum of three (3) years dispatch/routing experience. Experience with transportation mapping and routing procedures.
