The Inpatient RN serves as a vital partner to hospital teams, delivering specialized direct patient care across diverse renal and apheresis modalities. This role is designed to ensure high-quality treatment and a positive patient experience for hospitalized individuals requiring complex therapies, including hemodialysis, peritoneal dialysis, continuous renal replacement therapies (CRRT), apheresis, and ultrafiltration.
Working under limited supervision, the Inpatient RN applies considerable clinical knowledge to manage a broad range of tasks. The position involves supervising Patient Care Technicians and clerical staff, while also providing education and direction to ICU staff regarding CRRT protocols. The role demands strong organizational skills to manage shift schedules dynamically, prioritizing critical patients based on lab results, physician orders, and real-time assessments.
Fresenius Medical Care is committed to providing safe, effective, and timely care in accordance with company policies, FMCNA compliance programs, and contracted hospital procedures. The Inpatient RN acts as a subject matter expert for hospital staff regarding dialysis-related complications, ensuring continuity of care through close collaboration with physicians and the broader healthcare team. The role also includes maintaining rigorous safety standards, from machine calibration and disinfection to the accurate documentation of patient responses and adverse events.
Candidates must possess current state licensure and a minimum of one year of RN experience. Specific nephrology experience is required: at least six months in nephrology to work independently with dialysis/ultrafiltration services, and six months to work independently with apheresis services. Successful completion of the Progressive Renal Education Preparation course and Nurses Technical Training is mandatory. While ICU experience is preferred, it is not required. Certification in Nephrology Nursing or Apheresis Nursing is highly encouraged.
The interview process includes a review of qualifications and clinical competency. Candidates must successfully complete the Ishihara's Color Blindness test as a condition of employment; however, failing this test does not automatically preclude employment, as the company will consider reasonable accommodations. BLS CPR recognition is required, while ACLS CPR recognition is preferred.
