This position serves as a vital educational and clinical resource within the dialysis department, dedicated to providing comprehensive care for patients and supporting the broader medical team. The role exists to ensure the highest standards of renal care through 24-hour consultation with physicians and nursing staff, bridging the gap between clinical execution and patient education.
In this capacity, you will function as a clinical expert in hemodialysis, continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT), and slow low efficient dialysis (SLED). Your day involves assessing patient needs, interpreting critical lab values, and operating complex dialysis equipment to deliver safe, effective treatment. Beyond direct patient care, you will play a leadership role by precepting new employees, coordinating with dialysis technicians and LPNs, and serving as a charge nurse when needed. You will also actively contribute to the improvement of patient care by participating in federally required inter-disciplinary care committee meetings and serving on nursing councils or hospital task forces.
The role requires working in a dynamic medical environment that may involve constant exposure to high noise levels, temperature variations, and biohazardous conditions, including blood-borne pathogens and airborne particles. Safety is paramount, requiring strict adherence to protocols regarding radiation, toxic chemicals, and dangerous equipment. The position may involve frequent physical demands, including standing, walking, bending, and lifting up to 50 pounds, as well as occasional travel to offsite locations or working hours that extend beyond the regular schedule.
