Success in this role requires the ability to work both independently and within a team, while remaining flexible, adaptive, and innovative in solving complex financial challenges.
The Sheriff's Office is committed to justice and integrity, sworn to protect and honored to serve the residents and visitors of Lane County. The division provides a comprehensive array of correctional services, including a jail, a community corrections center (work-release), and out-of-custody programs such as community service and an inmate work crew. Deputies patrol urban, suburban, and rural areas, including timberlands, waterways, and coastal dune areas. Police services encompass criminal investigation, court security, prisoner transport, and process services for both criminal and civil matters.
To apply, candidates must attach a cover letter that includes responses to the following three questions. The cover letter will be scored out of 100 points: 25 points for overall communication and writing proficiency, and 25 points for each of the three questions.
The selection process includes a pre-employment background check and a medical evaluation (UA/TB screening). Some positions may require additional testing, such as audio and vision screening.
Lane County is an Equal Opportunity Employer. We value diversity, equity, and inclusion as essential elements that create and foster a welcoming workplace. All qualified persons will be considered for employment without regard to race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, political affiliation, disability, or any other factor unrelated to the essential functions of the job.
Studies have shown that women and BIPOC individuals are less likely to apply for jobs unless they believe they can perform every task listed. The county will consider any equivalent combination of knowledge, skills, education, and experience to meet minimum qualifications.
