The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is home to over 4,000 employees who take great pride in connecting the Commonwealth's residents and communities. MassDOT is responsible for developing, implementing, and coordinating transportation policies and projects to efficiently plan, design, construct, and maintain a safe statewide transportation system that effectively meets the needs of the Commonwealth.
The department comprises four primary divisions: Highway, Registry of Motor Vehicles, Aeronautics, and Rail & Transit. The Headquarters division, Planning & Enterprise Services, provides business and administrative support and policy leadership for each of these divisions. MassDOT fosters an inclusive culture and offers diverse career opportunities for those dedicated to public service.
The General Accounting section of the Chief Financial Office is seeking an Accountant to provide comprehensive support for all five MassDOT Divisions. This role is vital for ensuring the financial integrity of the agency's operations across the state.
The incumbent will process financial transactions and examine, analyze, and interpret accounting records to prepare statements and provide strategic advice. The position involves a dynamic day-to-day workflow that includes reviewing accounting procedures for accuracy and recommending operational improvements. You will analyze financial reports to identify trends in major programs and their impact on spending.
A significant portion of the role focuses on vendor and contract management within the Commonwealth's accounting system (MOSAIC). You will review contracts and encumbrances to ensure compliance with State Finance Law, verify vendor information, and process necessary forms. The role also requires resolving complex issues regarding unpaid checks, returned checks, and unclaimed check fund requests, often involving collaboration with the Department business units, the State Comptroller's Office, and the Treasurer's Office to ensure accurate and timely financial resolutions.
This requisition will remain open until filled; however, first consideration will be given to applicants who apply within the first 14 days. All job applications must be submitted online through MassCareers to be considered. Current MassDOT employees should use their internal MassCareers account to apply.
Please provide a complete, accurate, and current resume or application for MassDOT to review. For questions regarding the job posting, please email the MassDOT Talent Acquisition Team at talentacquisition@dot.state.ma.us. For general questions regarding MassDOT, call the Human Resources Service Center at 857-368-4722.
