City Year is an AmeriCorps program dedicated to helping students across schools succeed. Our teams of AmeriCorps members provide support to students, classrooms, and the whole school, ensuring that students receive a high-quality education that prepares them with the skills and mindset to thrive and contribute to their community.
As a Student Success Coach and Mentor, you will serve as a City Year AmeriCorps Member, focusing on coaching and mentoring elementary, middle, and/or high school students. Your mission is to help students earn academic success, improve their attendance, and develop positive behaviors at school.
You will work closely with partner teachers and school staff every step of the way. While experience in these tasks is not necessary, you will receive 2-4 weeks of training at the beginning of the year to support you. Your day-to-day involves planning and monitoring individual student progress, working with teachers on whole-class instruction, and creating engaging, safe, and healthy classroom spaces.
Beyond individual coaching, you will support whole-school initiatives to increase engagement with students and families. This includes supporting extended day and virtual programming before, during, and after school, such as academic enrichment, homework support, recreation, and leadership development. You will also help create and co-lead events that recognize student growth and achievement.
