About the Role
As a Student Success Coach and Mentor, you will serve as a City Year AmeriCorps Member, focusing on coaching and mentoring elementary, middle, and/or high school students. This role is designed to help students achieve academic success, improve attendance, and develop positive behaviors at school.
You will plan and monitor individual student progress while collaborating with teachers on whole-class instruction, breakout spaces, and in-class student assistance. While experience in these specific tasks is not required, you will receive 2-4 weeks of training at the beginning of the year to prepare you for service. Throughout your term, you will work closely with partner teachers and school staff every step of the way.
Your day-to-day impact will include supporting academic coaching and interpersonal development through 1:1 and small group interactions. You will help develop literacy and math skills, create behavior management systems, and foster interpersonal skills using proven strategies of learning, practice, reflection, and repetition. Additionally, you will collaborate with teachers to create engaging, safe, and healthy classroom spaces and support whole-school initiatives to increase engagement with students and families through extended day programming, homework support, and leadership development.
