City Year is an AmeriCorps program dedicated to helping students across schools succeed. Our teams of AmeriCorps members provide comprehensive support to students, classrooms, and the entire school community. Our mission is to ensure that students receive a high-quality education that equips them with the skills and mindset necessary to thrive and contribute meaningfully to their communities.
As a City Year AmeriCorps Member, you will serve as a student success coach and mentor for elementary, middle, and/or high school students. This is a paid, full-time entry-level position designed for individuals ready to build themselves, give back, and help change the world.
Your day-to-day work will focus on coaching and mentoring students to achieve academic success, improve attendance, and develop positive behaviors. You will plan and monitor individual student progress while collaborating closely with teachers on whole-class instruction and in-class assistance. While experience in these specific tasks is not required, you will receive 2-4 weeks of training at the start of the year and work alongside partner teachers and school staff every step of the way.
Beyond the classroom, you will support whole-school initiatives to increase engagement with students and families. This includes leading extended day and virtual programming before, during, and after school, such as academic enrichment, homework support, recreation, student clubs, and leadership development. You will also help create and co-lead events that recognize student growth in math, literacy, attendance, and behavior.
City Year AmeriCorps members are as varied as the communities we serve. We are looking for candidates who are passionate about education and community impact. To be eligible, you must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident (DACA status is not currently eligible). You must be between 17 and 25 years old by July 1, 2025, and have a GED, high school diploma, some college experience, or a college degree. Additionally, you must have served no more than three terms in an AmeriCorps state or national program and be available to begin service in July or August 2025.
