The 1:1 Aide plays a vital role in supporting a student with special medical needs within the general education setting. This position is designed to ensure the student can access learning while receiving the specific care required to manage their health, such as diabetes management, alongside their peers. Working under the direct supervision of classroom teachers, the School Nurse, and the Director of Operations, you will be the constant companion who helps the student navigate the school day safely and successfully.
Your day will involve a blend of educational support and medical care. You will implement the student's Individualized Education Plan (IEP), adapt classroom materials to meet their needs, and assist with personal hygiene and care. A significant portion of your time will be dedicated to monitoring the student's medical needs, administering necessary care, and collaborating closely with the School Nurse and healthcare professionals. Beyond the classroom, you will escort the student to various locations, including bathrooms, community field trips, and emergency drills, ensuring a safe and positive environment at all times. This role requires a flexible schedule and the ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team to maintain a whole-student approach to education.
