This position serves as an entry-level opportunity for individuals eager to master the foundational arts of core making and molding within a dynamic foundry environment. Whether focusing on the precision of core bench operations or the complexity of floor and Figure 9 molding lines, you will be trained to execute the full lifecycle of mold creation. From operating sand mixers and preparing jobs to the intricate tasks of ramming, venting, and assembling cores, this role is designed to build a comprehensive skill set from the ground up.
The work is largely routine yet demands a high degree of physical engagement and attention to detail. You will collaborate closely with a team and supervision to ensure top-quality molds and cores are produced efficiently. While the tasks follow established practices, the variety of castings and materials requires you to apply sound judgment in areas such as sand conditioning, gating, and pattern handling. Success in this role relies on your initiative to work effectively with crew members and your commitment to maintaining rigorous safety and housekeeping standards.
You will be working in a traditional foundry setting, which presents unique conditions including exposure to dust, heat, fumes, and significant noise levels. The environment fluctuates with seasonal temperatures, requiring adaptability and the consistent use of personal protective equipment (PPE), including hard hats, steel-toe shoes, hearing protection, and eye protection. The role involves frequent standing, walking, and physical effort, including hand ramming of sand and handling medium to large castings. While heavy lifting is supported by chain hoists and overhead cranes, the position does require the ability to maneuver in awkward positions and perform moderate to heavy physical tasks.
No prior experience in molding or core making is required to apply; however, a high school education and a willingness to undergo four years of on-the-job training are essential. We value candidates who demonstrate solid decision-making skills, the ability to follow procedures, and the initiative to work economically and efficiently. You must be capable of reading foundry engineering methods, sketches, shop cards, and blueprints to guide your work. If you are ready to learn, work safely, and contribute to a collaborative team culture, we encourage you to apply.
