The VP – Data Architecture Governance is a strategic leadership position within Synchrony's Data & Analytics Engineering organization. This role is designed to steer enterprise data platform architecture governance, risk, and controls oversight while providing decisive architecture leadership. The primary mission is to ensure enterprise-wide alignment of data architecture standards, reference patterns, and control requirements, supporting Synchrony's evolving data landscape and long-term business objectives.
In this capacity, you will partner extensively with senior architects, engineering teams, Internal Audit, and risk and compliance functions. Your focus will be on designing "controls-by-design" architecture guardrails and ensuring they are effectively implemented and evidenced through engineering workflows. These workflows span a diverse technology stack including AWS cloud services (Redshift, EMR, SageMaker), Ab Initio, Kafka, Hadoop, Oracle, Snowflake, and SAS, all of which collectively support Synchrony's enterprise-wide data, AI, and analytics needs.
Beyond technical oversight, you will lead critical governance activities such as issue management, risk and controls assessment, and audit or regulatory coordination (e.g., SOX). A key component of the role involves mentoring teams and fostering a culture of architectural excellence across the organization.
