The Animal Protective Foundation (APF) has served the greater Capital Region since 1931 with a vision of a community where all companion animals are loved, respected, and receive exceptional care. We are deeply committed to promoting work-life balance and supporting our team members through a living wage, generous PTO, 401(k) matching, and comprehensive health, dental, vision, and life insurance benefits.
The Volunteer and Community Engagement Coordinator (VCEC) is the vital link between APF's mission and the community. This role is dedicated to recruiting, training, and supervising the diverse corps of volunteers who make our shelter operations, spay/neuter clinic, and community events possible. You will not only manage the day-to-day volunteer program but also drive our community engagement efforts, fostering relationships with schools, local businesses, and service organizations to expand our impact.
In this position, you will ensure that every volunteer is treated with respect, utilized to their fullest potential, and equipped with the tools to provide high-quality animal care and customer service. From organizing off-site adoption events to hosting humane education classes in schools, you will be the face of APF in the community, building lasting partnerships that support our shared goal of animal welfare.
This is a full-time position working Tuesday through Saturday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm. While this is the core schedule, flexibility is required to accommodate extended hours, including occasional evenings and additional weekends for community events, meetings, and training.
We ask that all applicants submit both a resume and a cover letter; applications without a cover letter will not be reviewed. Preferred candidates will have prior employment or volunteer experience in animal care and handling.
The rate of pay for this position is $21 - $23 per hour.
