The Colorado Division of Racing is seeking a State Regulatory Veterinarian to serve as a pivotal leader in ensuring the safety, health, and fairness of the state's racing industry. This role is designed for a veterinarian passionate about equine welfare, sports integrity, and public service.
In this position, you will lead a dedicated team and influence the rules and regulations that define animal welfare in Colorado. You will act as the primary advocate for animal welfare, ensuring every race is conducted with the highest ethical and safety standards. The role involves balancing time between the Division of Racing office in Lakewood and the Arapahoe Park facility in Aurora, requiring a dynamic presence both in the office and on the track.
This announcement is open to legal residents of the United States. A residency waiver has been granted; however, if appointed, applicants from outside Colorado must be willing to relocate to the state at their own expense, typically within 30 to 60 days of accepting an offer.

Advanced knowledge of equine and large-animal medicine with a specialized focus on racehorses or elite high-performance sporthorses. Proven ability to interpret and apply complex state statutes (such as the Colorado Racing Act). Outstanding clinical decision-making skills, especially under pressure. A deep-seated commitment to animal welfare. Comprehensive understanding of operational risks, safety protocols, and nuances of the horse racing industry. Experience providing expert opinions on medical staff, specialized equipment, and diagnostic testing protocols. High level of flexibility in managing non-routine tasks. Professional fluency in Google Workspace and Microsoft Office Suite. Sophisticated interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to testify as a subject matter expert.
