Whether operating a shuttle bus or smaller passenger vehicles, you will provide essential transit services along fixed routes and deliver scheduled ADA-compliant service. This position is part of the Support track and offers a clear path for growth. The entry-level Vehicle Operator, I role is an ideal starting point, featuring paid CDL training and testing for those with little to no prior experience. For candidates with at least one year of CDL experience, the Vehicle Operator, II role offers an intermediate-level opportunity to apply your skills immediately.
Your day begins by arriving in uniform at least 15 minutes prior to your scheduled shift. You will conduct daily equipment inspections, checking for damage, failures, and safety items, and complete the Daily Driver Vehicle Inspection Report (DVIR) in writing. As you navigate time-sensitive routes, you will load and secure wheelchair passengers using lifts and tie-downs, ensuring a safe journey for all.
Beyond driving, you are responsible for maintaining a pleasant environment by following shut-down procedures, cleaning buses, and emptying garbage. The role requires the ability to sit and stand for extended periods while remaining safe, courteous, and professional. In some cases, you may also instruct others in the operation of heavy vehicles and equipment under the guidance of a crew leader.
