About the Role

We are seeking a dedicated Van Driver to join our Day Support Program. In this role, you will provide safe and reliable transportation to individuals with developmental disabilities, ensuring they reach their day support, residential, and work sites with exceptional customer service. This position is vital for maintaining the daily rhythm of our clients' lives, requiring a driver who is not only skilled behind the wheel but also compassionate and attentive to the unique needs of passengers with mobility challenges.

You will operate a split-shift schedule between 6:30 a.m. – 9:00 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. – 5:00 p.m. Your day involves following assigned routes, assisting non-ambulatory passengers with boarding and disembarking, and securing wheelchairs using lifts and belts as needed. Beyond transportation, you will act as a guardian of vehicle safety and cleanliness, performing daily maintenance checks on fluid levels, tires, and sanitation to ensure a safe environment for all passengers. You will serve as a key communication link between our clients, their families, and the Program Director, reporting any delays, no-shows, or vehicle issues immediately.

Hiring Process & Requirements

Candidates must possess a current valid Virginia Driver's License with a clean driving record. Specifically, the record must not reflect six or more demerit points within the preceding 24 months, or one major violation of six demerit points within the preceding 36 months. Out-of-state applicants must provide a driving history covering at least three years, dated within 30 days of the interview.

All selected candidates will undergo a comprehensive background check, including FBI and Virginia Department of Social Services screenings. The position may also require unexpected drug testing and verification of education or degrees.
