About the Role
We are seeking a skilled, safety-focused Vac Truck Operator to join our field operations team. You will play a critical role in vacuum excavation, hydro excavation, pipe cleaning, site cleanup, and spill response, supporting our project crews across a variety of commercial, municipal, and industrial job sites throughout Connecticut.
In this position, you will operate vacuum trucks, hydro-vac units, and related equipment to remove liquids, solids, sludge, and debris from construction sites, utility corridors, industrial facilities, storm drains, and sewer systems. The role demands strong mechanical aptitude, strict adherence to safety and environmental regulations, and the ability to work independently and as part of a crew in demanding field conditions. You will also serve as a vital member of our on-call emergency response team, ready to respond to spill events on a rotating 24/7 basis.
Compensation and Benefits
This is a full-time position located in Connecticut. Compensation is based on IUOE rates. We offer excellent medical insurance coverage and a defined benefits pension plan.
Hiring Process
Candidates must pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check. Please note that a valid Class A or Class B CDL with a Tanker Endorsement and a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) are required to proceed.

- check_circlePerform vacuum excavation to expose underground utilities without damaging infrastructure
- check_circleConnect hoses and operate high-pressure water jets for pipe and catch basin cleaning
- check_circleMonitor vacuum levels and tank capacity to prevent equipment damage or regulatory issues
- check_circleTransport excavated materials and hazardous waste to approved disposal facilities
- check_circleRespond to emergency spill events as part of the rotating on-call team
- check_circleConduct pre-trip and post-trip vehicle inspections and complete DOT documentation
- check_circleImplement project Work Plans and site Health and Safety Plans
- check_circleCommunicate with supervisors and clients regarding job progress and site conditions
- check_circleMaintain job sites, trucks, and equipment in an organized and clean condition
- check_circleSupport laboring functions including excavations, backfill, and material handling
- check_circlePerform routine preventive maintenance including fluid checks and equipment cleaning
Requirements

Nice to Have
HAZWOPER 40-hour certification (or willingness to obtain within 90 days of hire). OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Construction certification. Experience with hydro-excavation and non-destructive digging techniques. Familiarity with Vactor 2100, Vac-Con, or comparable vacuum truck platforms. Experience operating backhoe, excavator, Bobcat/skid steer, or man lift. Knowledge of underground utility infrastructure and utility locating procedures. Experience with CCTV inspection or jet/vac sewer cleaning operations. Prior confined space entry experience. 5+ years of combined heavy equipment and vacuum truck experience.
