Travel Nurse RN - Operating Room

About the Position

TravelNurseSource is partnering with Mindlance Health to locate a qualified Operating Room Registered Nurse for a 13-week contract at Columbus Community Hospital (CCH) in Columbus, Nebraska. This role is designed to replace a departing team member at the end of their contract.

Columbus Community Hospital is a community-owned, not-for-profit facility serving Platte County and surrounding areas. Led by a local board of directors, the hospital employs over 900 staff members and supports a medical staff of more than 50 active physicians. The facility is dedicated to bringing top-level healthcare, including primary care and specialist services, close to home without requiring travel to larger cities.

About the Role

You will join a collaborative team in a department featuring four OR suites plus additional rooms for minor procedures. The staff is known for strong teamwork and effective collaboration with surgeons. As an OR RN, you will circulate cases across a diverse range of specialties, including OBGYN (including C-sections), Orthopedics, General Surgery, Urology, and ENT. Given the department's size, you may also assist with room turnover and cleaning.

A unique aspect of this assignment involves supporting the PACU on callback cases. In this capacity, you will act as a second set of hands during the recovery period, assisting with patient monitoring and care rather than performing full recovery duties. The facility also hosts visiting physicians who hold clinics for ENT and Orthopedics, requiring staff proficiency in orthopedic cases, particularly total joint procedures.

Hiring Process & Application

The selection process includes the following steps:

1. Screening: Candidates must have a minimum of three years of Operating Room experience and prior travel nursing experience. Specific questions regarding scrubbing and circulating experience, license discipline, and criminal history will be addressed.
2. Documentation: A completed Skills Checklist (within one year), two professional references (one from a supervisor) with full names and facility details, and verification of education and licensure via Nursys are required.
3. Background & Health Checks: A comprehensive background check (including national criminal, sex offender, and address traces), drug screen, and physical exam must be completed within specified timeframes prior to the start date.
4. Competencies: Specialty competency exams, Joint Commission core competencies, and specific vaccinations (Hepatitis B, MMR, Tdap, Varicella, Influenza) must be documented. A respiratory fit test and CPI/MOAB certification training (if not already certified) are also required.

Successful candidates will receive a brief hospital orientation to obtain their badge and review policies before reporting to the department for competency check-offs. Timekeeping will be managed via the Triage Plus system, with badge-in/badge-out procedures effective from April 2026.
