About the Position
This 13-week contract opportunity is based at a specialized Medical-Surgical unit in Parkersburg, WV, focusing on the management of infectious diseases. The unit operates with 18 private rooms to ensure strict isolation protocols for patients with conditions such as COVID-19, MRSA, and C-Diff. The team typically consists of 3-4 RNs per shift, supported by two CNAs, with a charge nurse present 24/7 who also maintains a full patient assignment during night shifts.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
As a Registered Nurse, you will manage patient ratios ranging from 1:5 to 1:6, adjusting to 1:4 when COVID patients are present. While the role does not require titrating cardiac drips, you will be responsible for managing common titratable medications. Remote telemetry monitoring is available, though RNs are not required to read or interpret strips. Respiratory therapy equipment, including CPAP, BiPAP, or high-flow systems, is managed by dedicated respiratory therapists.
Shifts run from 07:00-19:30 and 19:00-07:30, including a 30-minute lunch break. The schedule requires coverage for every other weekend (Friday through Sunday) and may include holidays depending on unit needs. Travelers may be asked to float to other MedSurg units if necessary. The unit enforces a dress code requiring royal blue scrubs; jackets must be actual scrub jackets, with hoodies or sweat jackets prohibited.
Onboarding and Culture
New travelers will complete one day of orientation with a preceptor before working independently on the third day. The unit values strong knowledge of MedSurg, infectious diseases, and isolation precautions. Candidates must have travel experience and proficiency with the EPIC electronic health record system. A copy of an unexpired driver's license is required for all submissions.
Hiring Process
Candidates must meet specific onboarding requirements, including ACLS, BLS, Pharmacology, a Skills Checklist, and a Specialty Exam. The assignment duration is 13 weeks with a start date of June 8, 2026. Please note that the client retains the right to cancel two shifts per 13-week assignment.
