Located on the 2nd floor of the Main Hospital at 1900 Electric Road in Salem, VA, this Endoscopy unit is a dynamic hub of activity. The department operates four procedure rooms and supports a team of approximately 25 staff members, including RNs, scrub techs, and scope room techs. The unit handles a high volume of patients, typically processing 20 to 30 individuals each weekday.
The team utilizes Olympus scopes and Provation for procedural documentation, integrated with the Meditech EMR. The environment is fast-paced, requiring staff to be comfortable in frequently changing situations and to thrive as multi-taskers. The unit performs a variety of procedures, including EGD, colonoscopy, ERCP, and bronchoscopy.
As a Registered Nurse in this Endoscopy unit, you will play a critical role in the patient journey from admission to discharge. Your day will involve admitting patients, circulating and scrubbing in for procedural cases, managing recovery, and overseeing patient discharge. This role demands a quick learner who is team-oriented and capable of adapting to the rhythm of a busy GI lab.
The position is a 13-week contract starting as soon as possible, covering days from 07:00 to 17:30. The schedule consists of 4 days per week, 10 hours per shift. While the primary focus is on weekday coverage, all staff, including PRN nurses, are required to participate in weekend and on-call rotations.
Candidates must be prepared to complete the Endoscopy RN Skills Checklist and pass the Endoscopy/GI Lab RN Exam as part of the onboarding process. The ideal candidate will bring at least 2 years of RN experience, with prior PACU or ICU experience being a strong advantage. Applicants must hold a current ACLS certification and adhere to the hospital's attire policy, which includes hospital-issued scrubs, surgical attire, and a no-visible-piercings rule.
