Located in Charlotte, North Carolina, this Level 1 Pediatric Trauma Center and Teaching Hospital is a leading institution in the region. It houses a Chest Pain Center, a Certified Stroke Center, and a Congenital Cardiology program ranked #7 by US News & World Report. The facility serves as a hub for complex pediatric cardiac care, offering a vibrant mix of urban energy and natural beauty, with opportunities for outdoor pursuits like biking or exploring Latta Plantation Park.
The Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit (CVICU) is a specialized 20-bed unit divided into two mirrored sides of 10 beds each, with a centralized nursing station. The unit manages a very high-acuity patient population ranging from ages 0 to 18, including patients with congenital heart differences, those awaiting or recovering from transplants, and those utilizing advanced life support devices such as ECMO, Impella, and Ventricular Assist Devices.
As a Travel RN in the CVICU, you will join a dedicated team caring for critically ill pediatric patients. This role is designed for nurses with specific expertise in pediatric cardiac care, focusing on fresh open-heart post-op patients and those requiring complex medical management. You will work alongside a robust support system including 24/7 access to Cardiologists and Intensivists, a Resource Nurse, and a dedicated IV/VAT team.
The position requires the ability to float to PICU, NICU, and General Pediatrics as needed. You will utilize the EPIC EMR system and manage patients with central lines, minimizing the need for phlebotomy. The unit operates with a flexible nurse-to-patient ratio (ranging from 1:1 to 2:1) depending on patient acuity, ensuring that care is tailored to the critical needs of each child.
To apply for this travel assignment, candidates must meet specific licensure and experience criteria, including two years of Pediatric Cardiac ICU experience in a similar facility. Applicants must provide a reference from their entire work history and a PICU skills checklist dated within the last 12 months. Local candidates are eligible for the same rates as travelers.
