About the Role
We are seeking a Travel Nurse RN for the Cardiac PCU (Progressive Care Unit) at a Level IV Trauma Center and major teaching hospital in Charleston, West Virginia. This 838-bed facility utilizes Cerner charting and offers a dynamic environment for professionals looking to advance their cardiac care skills.
In this role, you will care for an adult patient population with a focus on pre- and post-cardiac catheterization patients and ED overflow. Your day-to-day responsibilities will include managing arterial and venous sheath removal, TR bands, new pacemakers/defibrillators, and Watchman post-procedures. You will discharge patients 24-48 hours post-procedure or facilitate CABG consults and transfers as needed. The role also involves caring for observation patients receiving procedures who will be discharged within 36 hours.
You will administer and manage specific drips including Nitroglycerin, Angiomax, Heparin, electrolytes, fluids, and antibiotics. The unit handles patients with various cardiac diagnoses such as NSTEMI, STEMI, CHF, atrial fibrillation/flutter, bradycardia, tachycardia, heart blocks, SVT, V-Tach, sinus arrhythmia, and AV paced/defibrillator patients. While you will not manage patients with chest tubes or critical drips, you will utilize cardiac telemetry, central line draws, ports, blood administration, PCA pumps, and assist with bone marrow aspirations and pleurx chest tubes.
You will work 3x12-hour night shifts (7:30pm–7:00am), including every other weekend, maintaining a patient ratio of 1:5. The position requires floating within scope as needed to meet facility needs. Scrubs are required in Royal Blue/White, and free traveler parking is provided.
