About the Team

The Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) is dedicated to keeping roadways and bridges safe and effective, ensuring Mainers can travel from point A to point B safely. Our Maintenance and Operations team in Region 1 (Southern Maine) embodies the state motto, "Dirigo" (I lead), by providing essential services to the community every day. We foster a culture of respect and awareness, committed to creating a strong sense of belonging for all team members regardless of their background.

About the Role

As a Transportation Worker, you will be an essential part of the front lines of roadwork, putting in long hours in all types of weather to protect Mainers and their families. Your work will vary significantly with the seasons: from road repair and culvert replacement in the summer to plowing in the winter. No two days are exactly the same, offering a dynamic environment where you will learn new skills continuously.

This role is designed for those driven to accelerate their careers through advancement opportunities and professional development. MaineDOT offers paid Commercial Driving License training and Snowfighter training, allowing you to earn more as you learn. Over time, you will gain the ability to become a certified snow fighter and flagger, with automatic promotional opportunities available as your expertise grows.

Hiring Process

Interested applicants should apply online by clicking the "Apply for this Opening/Apply Now" button. Please ensure you upload a cover letter, current resume, and any applicable copies of post-secondary transcripts, licensing, registration, and certifications.

Current MaineDOT employees in the Transportation Worker series who wish to be considered for a transfer must complete and submit a Transportation Worker Reassignment Form. For general questions or assistance with the application process, please contact Amy Webster, Human Resources Specialist, at 207-885-7002 or Amy.webster@maine.gov. If you are unable to complete the online application, please contact the Human Resources representative listed on the job opening to arrange an alternative submission method.

Our Culture and Commitment

We believe in supporting our workforce's health and wellbeing with a valuable total compensation package. Our aim is to create a workplace where you can learn, grow, and continuously refine your skills. We appreciate that many skills and backgrounds can make people successful in this role, and we encourage applicants to let us know how their lived experience and passion set them apart.
