About the Department of Public Health

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) is dedicated to preventing illness, injury, and premature death while assuring access to high-quality public health and health care services. Our mission is to promote wellness and health equity for all people in the Commonwealth. We envision a future where every individual enjoys optimal health, addressing challenges such as chronic disease, substance abuse, and health disparities through coordinated programs, policy enforcement, and community partnerships.

About the Role

The Health Care Facility Surveyor plays a vital role in ensuring that nursing homes, hospitals, and other health care facilities across Massachusetts comply with all state and federal regulations. This position is dedicated to public health, quality of life, and safety. You will conduct surveys within these facilities, review inspection findings, and evaluate plans of correction to determine ongoing compliance.

This is a field position with the majority of assignments located in the North Region, though occasional travel to the Division's main office in Marlborough is required. The role demands a reliable vehicle for transportation and may involve occasional weekends and mandatory overtime. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of regulations and policies applicable to health care facilities, combined with practical experience in a health care setting.

Hiring Process

First consideration will be given to applicants who apply within the first 14 days of the posting. The pre-hire process includes a criminal background check as required by the Executive Office of Health and Human Services. Education, licensure, and certifications will be verified in accordance with Human Resources Division guidelines. Please note that education and license information provided by selected candidates may be published on the Commonwealth's website in accordance with the Massachusetts Public Record Law.

If you require a reasonable accommodation during the application or interview process, please contact EOHHS Candidate ADA Requests. For general questions regarding this requisition, contact the Executive Office of Health and Human Services Human Resources at 1-800-510-4122, Ext. #4.

Equal Opportunity Employer

The Commonwealth is an Equal Opportunity Employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, color, sex, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, age, disability, national origin, veteran status, or any other basis covered by appropriate law. Females, minorities, veterans, and persons with disabilities are strongly encouraged to apply.

Research suggests that qualified women, Black, Indigenous, and Persons of Color (BIPOC) may self-select out of opportunities if they feel they do not meet 100% of the job requirements. We encourage individuals who believe they have the skills necessary to thrive to apply for this role.
