We are seeking a safety-conscious Driver to join our team, dedicated to the well-being of animals in need. In this role, you will be the vital link between our shelter locations in Tuscaloosa and Northport, veterinary clinics, and rescue destinations. Your primary mission is to ensure the safe and humane transport of animals, ranging from large dogs and puppies to cats and kittens, while adhering to a strict schedule.
This position is ideal for someone who enjoys being around animals, possesses an impeccable driving record, and can remain calm in stressful situations. While a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) is not required, experience operating large vehicles is preferred. You will play a key part in our daily operations, ensuring that every animal arrives safely at their destination.
Your day typically begins early, with animal pickups from the shelter at 6:30 AM to ensure they reach veterinary clinics by 7:00 or 7:30 AM. The afternoon shift involves picking up animals from various clinics between 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM and returning them to the shelter. Depending on the day, you may also be responsible for dropping off animals at rescue destinations, which can occasionally extend outside of Alabama.
Beyond driving, your responsibilities include conducting regular vehicle safety inspections, reporting maintenance issues promptly, and maintaining a clean environment by cleaning cages after use. You will engage with animals in a friendly manner, assisting them with boarding and exiting the vehicle safely. While we offer flexibility regarding days worked, you must be adaptable to the specific times required by veterinary clinics.
This is a part-time position, typically requiring 20–25 hours per week. The schedule is designed around the needs of veterinary clinics and rescue operations, requiring reliability and punctuality.
We are an equal opportunity employer committed to building a diverse and inclusive team.
