This position is dedicated to the care and representation of the penguin collection at Mystic Aquarium. The role serves as a vital link between the institution's conservation mission and the public, requiring a team member who embodies a positive, can-do attitude and a strong work ethic. You will be the face of the aquarium, ensuring that every interaction with guests reflects the organization's commitment to excellence.
Your day will involve a dynamic mix of hands-on animal husbandry and public engagement. You will participate in routine care procedures, diet preparation, and habitat maintenance, ensuring the highest standards of animal welfare. A significant portion of your time will be spent in front of an audience, delivering public presentations and interactive programs that educate visitors about penguins and marine life. Beyond the exhibits, you will monitor life support systems and water quality, and perform regular SCUBA diving maintenance to keep habitats pristine.
As a senior team member, you will also act as a mentor and role model for assistant trainers, interns, and volunteers, fostering a culture of teamwork and continuous learning across all departments. The role demands adaptability, as you will work in diverse environments ranging from cold, wet outdoor areas to indoor facilities, often requiring schedule flexibility for evenings, weekends, and holidays.
